We’ve all had those days where we get out of bed on the wrong side and things go progressively more pear-shaped as the day goes on! The thing is, how often do we take the time to consider that the world is not happening to us? We are participating in everything that we get in life! And if we don’t like what we’re getting, then we can change it!

Whining about your mood is a bit like watching a really dreadful movie on TV and not bothering to change the channel! No matter what is happening in the outside world, you alone are responsible for what’s happening inside your head!

So if life is seeming a bit tough right now go and find some uplifting music and dance around to it. Do some yoga or meditation. Read a great book or watch some animals doing stupid things on YouTube! Phone a friend who will make you laugh. Play with the dog, or borrow someone else’s! Watch Ice Age on DVD. Whatever it takes. It’s up to you, and only you, to do what it takes to feel wonderful!

Make that your first priority every morning!

It could be argued that without passion nothing happens. Almost certainly you or I wouldn’t be here without it!

So if gratitude is the energising power of the universe, passion is the match that sets it all in motion.

The problem is, since early childhood most of us have been trained to focus not on what we passionately want out of life, but what we think we can get. At around the age of seven we stop wanting to be astronauts, magicians and princesses and spend the next ten years or so trying to figure out what we want to be if we can’t get what we really want.

Is it any wonder there is so much discontent in the world?

Because the thing is, the people who really stuck with their dreams and didn’t allow anyone to deflect them from their passion are the ones who are living their dreams right now.

What’s your dream? What did you dream of doing when you were seven? When you were a child you probably didn’t know any better than to listen to those people who told you your dreams were impossible and you should be “realistic”. What they really meant was they wanted you to come and live in their reality. But now you’re a grown up and you can think for yourself.

Why would you continue to allow anyone to steal that dream from you?

I’m not a huge fan of Twilight – I got about 100 pages into the first book and got bored with all the teenage angst. I did it for real many years ago and have no need to go back!

But this is a fabulous piece of music. Enjoy!

Blogger B here, playing backup whilst the coach gets ready for a well deserved evening out. Three full-on training sessions in as many days – HR, then Diamond in Your Business, then teambuilding with 70 delegates yesterday, it has been quite a week. But last night the weather changed, and in Dubai that is quite a big deal. Tonight, the air is heady with dust, and the aroma of a thousand burnt steaks, so here is an appropriate piece of music, something we’re all wishing for, a little November Rain, played by a rather extraordinary young South Korean. Turn the sound up loud!

OK, for those of you not in Dubai perhaps not yet, but for all us Dubaians tomorrow is the last day of the week! This is a great time to check in with yourself and see what progress you need to make and then plan an incredible last day of the week so you can really have something to celebrate this weekend!

Its really important to plan for a weekend. Whether its going to be an action packed one or just a lazy relaxed time chilling out on the beach with friends or barbecuing in the garden, two full days away from thinking about work will re-energise you, top up your creativity levels and make you so much more productive in the following week.  If you find yourself thinking that you really can’t afford that time away from your desk, this is a good time to really evaluate what you’re doing and make a serious effort to spread the load somehow. Do it now, because if you don’t burn-out is a real possibility and then you won’t have a choice in the matter. Your body is very good at taking over when it really needs rest!

Take a close look at what you love to do, where your passion is, and spend as much of your energy as possible there and delegate everything else. You will be much more efficient and less stressed and believe it or not, someone out there loves to do the things you hate! Do it tomorrow and then you will really have something to celebrate over the weekend!

Someone asked me today how I could possibly describe Steve Jobs as an ordinary guy when clearly his impact on the world has been so extraordinary.

And yet if you look at where he came from, his upbringing, his schooling, his family background, there are very few clues that could have told us someone amazing was evolving. His early history is really quite mundane and boring, and if anything he was a bit of an under-achiever in his school years. So much for the theory that success leaves clues.

So what changed?

I believe what changed was he found his passion very early on. And unlike most people he decided to go after it and ignore anyone who told him he was barking up the wrong tree, or just simply barking! And I’m pretty sure there were plenty of them.

Imagine then, what your life would look like if you took the same single-minded attitude to pursuing your passion. When was the last time you even thought about what your really, truly, deeply, passionately want? Many of us bury these ideas quite early on. How would things change if you unburied them? Would you be prepared for the changes? Or would you find that degree of change too difficult, too challenging? What would your life be like if you followed your wildest dreams?

Most people live comfortable mediocre lives doing what people expect of them. And many of them are very content with those lives and that is a good thing.

But a few ordinary people follow their passion to become extra-ordinary. Its just a choice.

I should’ve been in bed ages ago but I’ve been playing with my new iPad and having so much fun finding out the amazing things it can do! Unfortunately it does suck up rather a lot of time and I have a crack of sparrowfart start tomorrow so here’s a great song, and a great question to end your day!

Well, its coming to the end of August and the end of a long hot summer as well. And for us here in Dubai its the end of Ramadan and everyone is celebrating Eid.

I love the way the beginning of September almost feels like New Year. I guess if you’re a student it literally is. But even if you’re not its still the start of a new season. So this a great time to evaluate your goals and get yourself mentally prepared to hit the ground running after a long summer break.

What do you really want to achieve by the end of the year? Four months is a great time scale to set yourself some really challenging goals. Its long enough to see some great results but its not so long that you will risk burn out and all your friends forgetting about you in the process!

Its only just over 16 weeks, 122 days to be exact! What can you commit to do to really stretch yourself?

Have a wonderful Eid to all those who are celebrating!

Lets get one thing very clear about Dream Stealers. They are a particularly nasty form of energy vampire and worth learning to defend against!

A person is a dream stealer if they laugh and scoff at your big dreams and tell you that there’s no way that you are worthy or capable of achieving of such great ideals.

A person is a dream stealer if they laugh and scoff at your dreams and ideals to create a perfect family and home life and tells you you should be thinking bigger and more impressive goals.

Your dreams are yours and it is no one elese’s place to judge if they are worthy of you or if you are worthy of them. No matter how big or how small, stay connected to your dreams and don’t let anyone else tell you what’s right!
