Have you ever had that experience where you’re telling a friend about a fabulous idea you’ve had and suddenly you sense that their eyes have completely glazed over?

What’s going on here? Aren’t your friends supposed to be your greatest supporters?

Well, here’s the problem. There’s two problems actually.

Firstly your friends love you for who you are, and they are worried that if you act on all these great ideas that you will change and move away from them and that makes them sad. Often its a subconscious thing, they are probably not even aware that that is what they’re doing. Although some will do it consciously, telling themselves its for your own good. We call these ones Energy Vampires and they are not your friends!

Secondly, your friends feel threatened by the fact that you are changing and growing and chasing your greater potential and that makes them feel guilty because they realise that they are not. Your growth and development highlights for them what’s possible when you let go of fear. But perhaps they are not yet ready to let go of fear. Choosing to change takes real courage and strength and not everyone believes they have enough of that.

But be a rebel and do it anyway! Find yourself some new friends who are all going forward fast with their lives, and share your dreams and ideas with them. That doesn’t mean you have to dump the old ones, just that you don’t need to let their negativity drag you down.

And the really great thing is your true friends will always be with you. They love you not only for who you are, but also for who they know you can be!

At Last!

So we finally made it to the weekend and all Dubaians are now finally officially on chillout mode. And the rest of the world will eventually catch up by tomorrow. Wishing you all a wonderful relaxing time with good food, good wine (if that’s what you enjoy) and most importantly good friends.

Happy weekend everyone! You’ve earned it!

We’re off out to meet some friends at a fantastic Indian Restaurant in Dubai so blogging is off the menu tonight but tandoori prawns are on! Anyway, the place we are going to has a great band and dancing so I thought I’d give you a taster of what my evening will be like…

…well, maybe not quite like this!

Here’s a tip on time management – when you get yourself so organised that you’re ready to leave to go somewhere 20 minutes early, never ever ever think that you can just fit one more task in before you go! You won’t do the task well, it will take you longer than 20 minutes to complete and to add to it the traffic will be a nightmare and you will be late!

Time management is not about fitting as many tasks as possible into the day, its ensuring that everything you do fits in with your overall plan and contributes to getting you the results you want in the time you planned. Getting there more quickly is not a good thing if it means you arrive burnt out, frazzled and exhausted and most of your friends and family have forgotten your name!

Feeling busy can be an addiction and it is very often a sign that the Inner Reptile is taking over so pay close attention when you find yourself rushing about like a mad thing trying to do too many things and doing none of them really well. Take a look at your plan, see if you are just being busy for the sake of it or if you do need to adjust your timetable slightly. Far better to adjust your deadline early on than to find yourself a week before with a month’s worth of work to do!

There will be plenty of times you really do need to do the blue-assed fly thing so make sure your plan has some give in it. If your plan requires you to work 20 hour days for weeks at a time, what are you going to do when there’s a real emergency? You won’t have the energy and even if you do, you won’t have the hours in a day.

Since its the weekend I’m cooking not thinking! Actually I’m not even cooking but trying out a recipe for a raw vegan cheesecake! Which various helpful people have pointed out to me is a contradiction in terms but stay with me!

Its based on this recipe at Anja’s Food 4 Thought which is a great food blog with some gorgeous ideas for things that are both delicious and healthy! I fiddled with it a bit, partly because that’s what I do and partly because I adore raspberries and chocolate and also because I’m not that wild about dried coconut!

In my version I use oat flakes instead of coconut and a bar of raw 100% chocolate in the base and I blended raspberries through the cashew cream because in my book the more raspberries the better. And I used agar agar to set it because it has to travel across Dubai in 47 derees centigrade so freezing isn’t going to work! Even though I followed the instructions on the packet (very unusual for me) it seems to have set rock solid which I’m not entirely happy about but we’ll see! I’ll let you know how it tastes and if it manages to fool my anti-health food friends we’re having dinner with tonight! Annie Armen – if you get on a plane now there might possibly be some left by the time you get here!

I love weekends!
